I did that with my Israeli AR clone.

Here's a vid I found. It's for an AK, but you can still do the same thing by tying the paracord around the FSB.

Inside the stock works just fine. If you don't have a sling attachment on the front of your rifle, just wrap it around the barrel on the section under the gas block/front sight. Been doing that with an M4 for a minute. You just have to (this should go without saying) keep an eye on it, since the finish will wear away, and will be more susceptible to rust. But if you let your rifle rust, then fuck you you deserve it.

If that front sight tower is you gas block, no. It will melt it.

Go to lowes and get the thinnest wire you can, metal generally doesn't melt at 400 degrees.

While them ladies is secky I've seen para melt on hot barrels/gas blocks. For some reason, I'm thinking support troops in training don't generally get their barrels very hot posing for pics.

I've seen hot barrels/blocks start grass fires, melt nylon, and burn the heck out of folks. Don't come crying to me when you rifle goes flying off at your next training after you para cord sling busts.

Vickers VCAS, right?
http://www.blueforcegear.com/vickers-combat-applications-sling/

That one? I tell you what, you mount it the way I said (front around the barrel under the front sight/gas block, rear through the stock on the "inside" of the weapon) and I will buy you a new one if you manage to melt it with anything short of an FA lower and belt-fed upper. One of the things I love about the VCAS is that it requires nothing to mount except what they ship it with. They even give you an extension for using it with an A1/A2 stock.

* I guess I can't fault you for not knowing that the IDF has allowed women in combat since around 2001. And that they have quite a few in the infantry, paratrooper, recon and sniper units.

That's what I was illustrating with that particular picture.

What's the name/brand of the stock on those IDF rifles so I can search for one?

I have this imaginary build in mind with some imaginary money I don't have and I imagine that stock might be great for it.

IIRC, it's the "CAR" stock popularized on the Colt CAR-15. You want the C.A.R. model, not the M4 CAR.

I already had an old aluminum CAR stock that I used on my IDF clone build. The plastic (fiberlite) ones are pretty easy to find....You may have to do a bit of searching for an aluminum one.

ETA: maybe not, here's an aluminum 4-position CAR stock similar to mine: http://www.parts4ar15.com/ar-15_accessories/product/CS-10.html

And an aluminum 5-position stock: http://www.tonyscustomuppers.com/cart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=78

Cool thanks guys, bookmarking in 'fictional rifle build' folder

F-that to the $145 link Rick, sheesh, the aluminum ones are harder to find, but I'm not looking to blow that much. Found this link too (and google doesn't make it easy for me to find these) The fiberlights seem to be more available, but aluminum says 'cool' to me for some reason :clownshoes:

http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ar4pocostm4s1.html $30???
OOS right now, I'll see if they ever come back in

Here's one for $75

Whether you go with the VTAC or VCAS, think about getting the padded version.

Okay, well it seems my RRA 2-stage trigger finally went tits up and is single action now (with a horrible reset).

Any recommendations on a good sub $100 single action GI style trigger? I'm thinking ALG form PSA, but wanted to get opinions before I "pulled the trigger". dohoho

Piggy back post. USGI triggers are a bit...clunky. They could be approved. Anyone got suggestions on a "combat ready" trigger that's lighter, smoother, but still grunt-proof?

Also: breaking down your M4 to the point where it is unidentifiable as a complete weapon is apparently NOT an acceptable way to protest the excessive cleaning of issued weapons. But it will make a lieutenant have a stroke.
