If that front sight tower is you gas block, no. It will melt it.
Go to lowes and get the thinnest wire you can, metal generally doesn't melt at 400 degrees.

I've seen hot barrels/blocks start grass fires, melt nylon, and burn the heck out of folks. Don't come crying to me when you rifle goes flying off at your next training after you para cord sling busts.

I mount my rear sling attachment so that it hands on the outside of the rifle, this helps to keep the rifle vertical when hanging at rest on your chest.

I have this imaginary build in mind with some imaginary money I don't have and I imagine that stock might be great for it.

IIRC, it's the "CAR" stock popularized on the Colt CAR-15. You want the C.A.R. model, not the M4 CAR.

That one? I tell you what, you mount it the way I said (front around the barrel under the front sight/gas block, rear through the stock on the "inside" of the weapon) and I will buy you a new one if you manage to melt it with anything short of an FA lower and belt-fed upper. One of the things I love about the VCAS is that it requires nothing to mount except what they ship it with. They even give you an extension for using it with an A1/A2 stock.

Whether you go with the VTAC or VCAS, think about getting the padded version.

Any recommendations on a good sub $100 single action GI style trigger? I'm thinking ALG form PSA, but wanted to get opinions before I "pulled the trigger". dohoho

Piggy back post. USGI triggers are a bit...clunky. They could be approved. Anyone got suggestions on a "combat ready" trigger that's lighter, smoother, but still grunt-proof?
Also: breaking down your M4 to the point where it is unidentifiable as a complete weapon is apparently NOT an acceptable way to protest the excessive cleaning of issued weapons. But it will make a lieutenant have a stroke.
