Stuff that is mispronounced

Moseen Nagan, I believe is the correct pronunciation as opposed to Mosin Nagant. I still prefer the latter, being that my name is not Vladamir

Usually the whole clip vs. magazine article is the biggest issue for me.

I had a friend who, every time he saw a 1911, would go "one-nine-one-one". Annoyed the piss out of me.

Clip vs Mag is huge but Heckler and Koch is the worst!

It's Heckler and "Coke" not "Cotch"

It's just easier to say "HK"

I had a friend who used to pronounce the Koch in HK as "Cock".

The Mosin-Nagant mispronunciation gets to me as well.

Yeah, I've always said "HK" rather than "H and K", and made sure I knew how to pronounce it "Coke" a long time ago.

I honestly don't deal with Mosins much, but have a hard time remembering the correct pronunciation amidst a conversation, so I usually just try to intentionally butcher it as much as possible.

I constantly butcher it as well, even though I've read the proper pronunciation in the past. (It's pronounced "Guys-Lee" for those who don't know)

Saiga. Heard it as, 'See-ah-gah' sooo many times.

'Sa-but'' instead of, 'say-boh' makes me involuntarily roll my eyes at whoever is speaking.

Hey, it may be the wrong pronunciation but you could argue that it's an appropriate description of the company.

I think this fits here...all the drill sergeants at Benning would constantly use the word behoove. Everything was fine and dandy until one of the privates asked a DS what it meant. The DS (special forces qualified mind you), described it as; "be Hooah.". Like, it would be Hooah of you, said really fast. I actually put my face in my hand when I heard that. 40 something guys in the platoon and I'm the only one who noticed something was wrong. This is proof that the big Army is retarded.
Sometimes, thinking back, I think it was joke...but he said it like he meant it.

One of my English teachers would use this word constantly (I guess I should thank her since I now know what it means) and if anyone asked what it meant, you'd better get the hell out of her way. Since she told us all on the first day of her class, everyone was expected to know immediately thereafter. That's not too high of an expectation, but you have to remember it was also a public school. The general public is, in fact, quite low in the intelligence department (or so it seems).

I thought it was used so much just for that reason; the play on words. I guess if it behooves you to pronounce stuff right....it would also be huah of you too?

Everytime I heard it in the military it was actually meant as "behoove", but then again, I was in the (Ch)AirForce

edit-oh yeah, I finally got to say "sigh-ga" today.

This was from a guy who absolutely didn't allow the word Hooah to be spoken. He called it "gay" and said no one in special forces uttered it, ever. It felt like he was just repeating what had been said to him many years earlier at basic.

Yeah, we have our share of mispronounced/mispoken words in the Air Force. My pet peeve that echoed through the ranks was "incidences" used instead of "incidents". Whenever leadership spoke of "high numbers of incidences" in a weekend, I'd cringe.

OT: A guy one of my aunts was married to (I refuse to call him my uncle for many reasons) was talking about a gun a friend of his owned, and referred to it as a "Three-five-seven magnum". I said "Oh, a .357." To which he replied "No, a three-five-seven."

Sako should be pronounced sock-o and say-co. Many don't know because the rifles were first imported right after WWII and importers thought sock-o sounded too Japanese so they changed it.
