I'd vote for SAFE and SEMI for the switch; nothing silly, and since even if I move to a Free State I won't be able to convert it (no one has been able to do that since '86, if I'm correct?) there's no need for AUTO...

I've heard stories from people who were there about folks with semi-only ARs that had AUTO on the selector switch who were "caught" during random range checks and taken in for possession of an illegal automatic weapon, despite protests of innocence. Sure, the charges eventually get dismissed, but why would you even want to have to deal with that? Also, sometimes it can be exceptionally difficult to get your confiscated weapon back... ask anyone who's ever tried to get a weapon back from the LAPD...

Any interest in Zombie Squad lowers?

Postby zombiegristle » Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:13 pm

I'm in, been thinking about building an AR anyway and this is too cool to miss. I'd vote for the ZS logo on one or both sides of the magwell, and I would definitely want the serial to match my member badge number if possible. Very cool.

Ya know, I just found an old thread about prior ZS lowers, and while I'd still be up for a new one (can one ever have too many AR lowers? Each one is a pretty black rifle, just waiting to be born...), I think the one with the OFFICIAL ZS USE ONLY and barcode are pretty cool. Anyone have an unassembled one they wouldn't mind parting with for a reasonable amount of coin? Ie., not triple the price due to it's being a collector's item or anything...

One of these

I'd probably buy one also. I've decided I'm gonna build an AR just cuz.

Well, you can´t convert the lower itself , you´re right about that.

But you can put in an Registered Drop in Auto Sear (RDIAS) IF the lower is a low shelf (either factory or milled out later from a high shelf one)

Or you can put in a Registered Lightning Link (RLL) (afaik, LL´s are usually safe/auto only but there´s a trick to make them go safe/semi/auto ? Some machine work needed on many lowers too so it can move freely from what i´ve read).

That makes a Safe/Semi/Auto marked Lower desireable for some people. Just FYI to let you know it´s not completely without sense.

no one has been able to do that since '86, if I'm correct?

FFL07/SOT02´s can still convert the actual lower but these "post" samples are not transferable to civillians.

Ahhhh...

Well, I don't have a RDIAS or a RLL, so it's a moot point for me, but I suppose someone might want the markings.

In any event, I still vote for not having an AUTO marking, for the reason I mentioned if nothing else... if you live in a Free State where the DOJ doesn't make "raids" on firing ranges on busy days, fishing for weapons violations, it might not be much of a concern...

Since it is a zombie themed gun, I don't want auto, but the markings "safe, living, undead" or "safe, dead, undead" or "safe, dead, horde" just for shits and giggles.

I still vote for SAFE and FIRE... I'm adamantly against having any marking at all where the AUTO position would be. If the group decides on that, I'll have to reluctantly pass... :-(

Ok, here is my take. Go with the ZS logo that is up in the left corner of the page. Just like that. Not thin lines. No weird text. No other mention of zombies or the undead. Those that know what the logo is know what it means. Go with "SAFE" and "FIRE" or pictograms. Nothing cute. We don't need "Semi", as we all know that we are very unlikely to ever get a functional marking for the third spot on the selector. NO auto marking. Not all of us live in free states, and a trip to the pokey for trying to be cute SO isn't worth it. Get the logo engraved, not lasered on like a cheap tattoo. Add $10-20 to the price as a donation to ZS. Boom. Done. No other sillyness that will cause problems or drive up the price. If they can do a run with "Multi-" for the caliber, or a ZS series of serial numbers, great. If not, oh well. Trying to get custom numbers is not worth it. It jumbles up their books, and invariably, some of us will end up with the wrong number.

Don't get me wrong here. I like the "Parley, Pillage, Plunder" markings and other funny markings on the selector switch. But every group buy I have been in on is like trying to herd cats when you open it up to committee. And then you have the majority of people drop out because their favorite idea wasn't the one that got picked. Keep it simple, keep it plain, and get it finished quickly.

Any interest in Zombie Squad lowers?

I'm with the guy above me. Simple is best if it means this gets off the ground, just the logo is enough. Custom emails or caliber markings are awesome and if possible would be worth extra money at least to me, but if they hinder the overall progress of the buy then they aren't worth it.

Just for the impatient, I haven't been able to get by PSA yet because I work and have kids that I like to be with. I will be there friday afternoon. I will start the ball rolling then. Like I said, if you want them fast, I'm not your guy. I want these to be cool, so just relax, it will get done.

I'm going to ask for serial numbers ZS ####. There will not be custom numbers, just a ZS. On the right and left of the mag well will be a rectangle with a ZS in it, just like the ZS logo. Under the two letters will be Zombie Squad in GI text. The logo will be laser engraved. The reciever will have to say Palmetto State Armory over the selector on the left side. It will also say PA-15 and Multi. Per ATF regs it will also say Columbia, SC. I'm going to ask them not put put the crossed cannons on, in fact I'm going to insist on it. It shouldn't be a big deal since I'm asking them to skip a step in the engraving process.

This is going to go through 3 manufacturers. The AR manufacturer, PSA and the engraver. This will not be fast. I'm going to see how much it's going to be for 25 and 50.

If you can live with this, subscribe to this thread and monitor updates.

That description sounds awesome, I'm still in for sure. I especially like the "cal multi" since I probably won't be able to force myself to keep it "normal" for long.

What do people want on the selector?

Can the OP get a poll going as far as safe and fire or bullet pictos?

I'm inclined to picto bullets.

Aw crap. Now I'm gonna have to start another AR build, dammit. :D

Depending on cost, I could be talked into one. I'd be partial to "safe/fire". But I'm not 100% on getting one, so feel free to ignore that opinion.

Either pictos or safe/semi or safe/fire is fine by me. Just nothing cutesy like "living/dead/undead" or some shit. I really like the look of HK's selector bullets in particular.
