I have a Remmey model 760 in 30.06 that I have had from @1979-80? This setup was rather popular on the east coast where I grew up. Pennsylyvania laws said no semi autos for hunting so the pump was seen a lot. A local term for these are "Amish assult rifles"..lol

I modified a Yankee Hill EOTech riser to mount a light on my 870.

You could mount it on the side if you were to use a light with a tail cap push button.

I'm a 7615 fan. If I do my part mine will hold sub minute groups @ 100 despite its shitty trigger. Mine have the Wislon sights too, but I've only ever got a zero @ 50yds with them and a Nikon2-7 has been on it ever since.

My only complaint about it is I absolutly can not field strip it. Like not even a little bit.

Just curious, do those pump guns have dual action-arms or just a single?

Not sure to be honest... it's the only pump I've handled and I don't know the difference.

Holy crap. They actually put a shotgun bead on a rifle. Surely someone has to make suitable replacement rifle sights for those?

You can go with AA powered optics as long as it won't get fried using lithiums...about .25/.50 volts higher than a normal alkaline AA.

Okay, I can see from your pics that it has dual-action arms. That's good.

I've actually got a Williams Fire Sight rifle front sight on my Rem. 870. If you wanted a thinner front sight blade, Williams and XS Sight Systems make ones that will fit the dove-tail of a Remington front sight ramp. Just make sure to measure the height of the one you have and get one the same, or close to the same, height.

Yeah, those are pretty good sights for a shotgun but no wonder you're having trouble past 100 yards.

I checked and Rem 700 sights will apparently work.

Or you could just order a standard 7600 sight from Rem.

Williams Peep Sight

A standard Remington 700/7600 standard front sight blade and a Williams rear peep sight would work a lot better than what's on there now.

On a slightly related topic. Probationary handgun licence came in the mail the other day. So in approximately 6months time this will be accompanied by my first 9mm, initially dictated by my bank account balance. Then after a further six months I'll be able to purchase many handguns of all* shapes and sizes.

*Shapes and sizes are heavily legislated and certainly do no allow all handguns :(

I like that light set-up Templar. Very nice.

I like Rick's custom light mount too.

aus.templar, a thought just sprung to my head...

I know you can't have semi-auto rifles, but would it be possible to put in a longer barrel & attach a stock to your legally owned handgun? You know, for a semi-auto pistol caliber carbine.
I'm just asking, because in Germany that's a legitimate way around some legislation concerning semi-auto longarms (mag limits, folding down to much, etc.). A pistol is a pistol is a pistol, whatever crap you put on it.

That's a nice rifle. My very first bug out gun was an old Woodsmaster 7400 (semi auto) that my buddy gave me for losing a trail camera. The wood stock was cracked. The end of the barrel was damaged so a gunsmith owed me a favor and cut the barrel down and put a new front sight on it. I put a 4x scope on it with some new plast furniture (including an M4 style buttstock. It went from shooting 8" groups at 100yds to 2".

I bought the steel 10rnd mags for it. It was 30-06 and was also my hog gun. I sold it to another buddy for $350 a year later!

Pistols must remain under 650mm, however you may add stocks to them, etc.. However customs tends to seize attachable pistol stocks and uses words like "sub machine gun " and "automatic pistol".

My skill with the pump is now at a stage where it doesn't bother me I don't have a semi. Don't get me wrong, I would fucking love one.... but I've made do and I'm happy with the speed I can work the action and get fast shots off.

I neither have nor want a semi-auto rifle myself, but that's just because "self defense" and "tactical use" are at the very bottom of the list of all the uses for my guns. I just thought because you seem to give those uses a higher priority, you might be interested in a legal pistol caliber carbine. If it's that much of a hassle, I probably wouldn't bother myself.

That being said, I still think you need a nice old-fashioned tactical loadout: A lever action carbine & a revolver in the same caliber to go with it. Because EVERYONE needs that. :P

The pump model is most likely far more reliable and sturdier than the semi version. I like your rifle.

Re: 4 moa dot on the Aimpoint micro sights.

At Shot Show this year Aimpoint announced a 2 moa dot version for both the H1 and T1 optic.

As for the off site storage you mentioned, is that because of lack of a gunsafe or are you required to store your weapons at a club in Australia?

Yeah, I don't know about the newer 7400s, but the ones we had 25 years ago needed to be kept fairly clean, especially around the lugs recesses.

Templar, one thing that has worked for me in regards to increasing the accuracy potential with irons is to file a point on the front sight(provided you replace it with a plain black one).

It is easier to center a clearly defined point in a peep than a square post front sight(and so is a round dot front sight), I haven't found it to be any slower(usually quite the opposite) and it is much easier to have precise shot placement with it.
Whatever works!
