I've seen EOTechs and ACOGs be damaged just from dropping them from the side of a tank.

Ok has anyone used a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 mil-dot?

Also...where can i find FN medium height 30mm rings?

I've never used the Viper, but I've used the Razor HD on a 50BMG, the Sparc, the Crossfire, and the Strikefire.

I think their optics are the best deal on the market right now for those who don't need super battle war ready platoon accessories. Superb operational quality, incredible clarity and resistance to the elements, precise adjustments on rifle scopes, and crisp red dots on those that apply.

I just ordered an illuminated reticle Crossfire 4-12x for my .338 Federal bolt gun. I get a little deal through work, but I would have gone for it even if I had to pay retail. It's damn fine glass for the price.

If you're not in it for Nightforce quality optics, I think Vortex is the best choice.

If its anything like its cheaper sibling, the Crossfire series 6.5-20x50 mil, be aware of some serious limitations.

The MilDot is only correct at one fixed power, the glass is fine, but the recticle itself is really thick so any kind of precision work with it suspect, it's not a FFP scope - I discovered too late how much that matters at distance, clicks are good but setting the zero is a PITA.

All in all, I'm not upset for what I payed for it (Crossfire version) but after owning it a while I definately bought the wrong scope for what I wanted. I would have been much happier with a fixed 10x and a fine recticle, or spent the money on a propper FFP scope. The hard part is justifying that money on a 22LR - but it's also the gun I shoot the most. Didn't think that all the way through...

I have a Leupold MK4 MR/T 1.5-5 and love it. I can shoot with both eyes open up close and make easy shots out to 500 yards so far. I got mine off the SWFA sample list for 699. That was a hundred to 300 less than new at the time and it was in like new condition. It has a BDC reticle and also allows you to dial in your yardage or MOA. I wanted a Vortex Viper PST but no one had one at the time. I like their no BS warranty. I use my Leupold for 3 gun so it sees all kinds of distances.

Alright guys, here's the deal. I plan to build my wife an AR for Xmas. Going with this upper: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/ProductD ... 0&CartID=1 Max range will be 3-500yrds.

Looking to stay under 700 for a scope including the mount. Leaning towards a Loopy or Nikon.

What do I want? HALP!

Thanks in advance.

Loopy 1.5*5. Vr-2. Or 1-4 vxr. Endless amount of rings to choose from. Hate me, I have used ARMS rings for 15 years. I've never been struck by lightning or burst into flames. I have received hate and been ostracized.

What magnification range does the Little Lady want?

Would you rather have something more "light weight" like a scope with a 1" tube, or something a little more HD with more adjustment like a 30mm tube?

Simple reticle, or something more "complex"?

Illuminated?

The lady doesn't know anything about it :D... Xmas present.

It will be a dedicated medium range rig. She has never used a scope so this will be a learning rifle.

Soo, my employer has a points rewards system that lets me get free swag (hooray for customer compliments!), and I noticed they have a few Nikon scopes. The Nikon Monarch 5-20x44SF seems to be the best one, and the 3-9x40 Buckmaster being the lowest point value they have (I'm 1/5th of the way to enough points for the Buckmaster, and 1/10th for the Monarch). I reckon, since I am building an AR with a free float handguard, might as well make it my precision rifle. Would one of these scopes be a good start? Would crosshairs be easier to learn with than BDC? These scopes are both 1 inch tubes, what mount would I use to go on my upper? Would I try and get it co-witness with my MBUS, or just leave my MBUS down? There is enough big open spaces in Texas that I could see myself using this rifle to the upper limits of 5.56 ammo range for shooting targets, hunting, and SHTF.

My experience with scopes is sighting the POS scope my Daisy BB gun came with

I'm thinking about getting a Burris MTAC 1-4x in a Larue mount. Hopefully I'll order one next payday. Once I get around to buying it I'll try to give you some feedback, as the set up should be well under $700.

I had a Monarch UCC 3-9X40 plex reticle on a Weatherby Vanguard 7mm RM for a while. The glass was very clear and the adjustments repeatable. Nikon is good glass. I don't have any experience with the Buckmaster line. You'll need Medium height rings; high rings will be too high for a 40mm objective lens. You won't be able to co-witness the irons to the scope because the focal distance of the scope will be beyond your front sight post. Leave 'em down unless you don't have a QD mount on that scope; if that's the case, leave 'em off. You won't be able to use 'em.

Is there an end-all be-all mount for mounting optics rearward on an AK? I understand dustcover mounts are worthless for maintaining zero, and I'm not crazy about the way the dogleg rails look. is ther another option, or is the dogleg the best? I'd be mounting an Aimpoint Micro (R-1) and my eyes aren't crazy about the forward mounts for it.

Doc.

You'll need a side rail, but this is what I plan to run on my Draco: http://www.rsregulate.com/products.php

Not sure which one yet, but for sure it will that.

Ive never owned one, but apparently RS mounts are great options for rearward mounting of optics on AK's. Doesnt look half bad either.
