Re: Gear that made you stop looking

Sunglasses are Oakley (4+1)2. Replaced the lenses once. I've had them since 2008...which might be a record since they go everywhere with me and I haven't lost or broken them yet.

Re: Advice for Future FireFighter/Paramedic

I'd say from a PD perspective....don't aim for the minimum. You want to max any scores you can that are within your control. It is a lifestyle change and treat it as such. This will be the toughest challenge you will ever face, and it will last a lifetime... I have much more respect for FF'ers since...

Re: Help me cut down junk food

I've used "My Fitness Pal" (an iphone app) to great effect over the last two years. I've lost 40lbs...slowly. I stopped using the app for 3 months and leveled out after gaining 5lbs back. It is a good tool because there are tons of name brand foods in the app (I've never had food, even store brand, ...

Re: Night Security

Had a case of agoraphobia when I came back from Iraq. The odd part was I slept like a log. My wife got tired of checking out the "bump in the night" so told me I had to "figure it out". (She's a Texan... The real kind) So I found out that I could control it. You may not be able to, as may others, bu...

Re: Edible Landscaping

I have a carob tree in the backyard. I live in central AZ and never water it, but it grows like a weed. The pods can be ground into flour or used as a chocolate substitute. Lots of carbs and can be gnawed on right off the tree. I've actually started throwing a handful in my hiking bag to gnaw on whe...

Re: "Walking Dead" Cable Series

Tracking on an asphalt road is nearly impossible unless you have the same sense of smell as a hunting dog and they're on foot. Cars don't leave tread marks everywhere they go like man/animals do in the dirt or the mud. Skid marks are only likely to point the way towards which way they went if the c...

Occasionally I'll swap out the KelTec for the 1911 IWB. When I shop for clothes and try them on, EDC goes in the pockets before I buy.

Re: Limiting your Cache to Three Calibers...

Well, there is such a thing as too much gun and such a thing as not enough gun. I'd rather have too much gun. And to the poster that said that 1911's jam a lot...there are a lot of makes and models of 1911's. Even my humble Springfield has not jammed. I spent a day in the PD gun lab on Wednesday and...

Re: The Value of a Good Bicycle

Meh, when oil runs out, your bike will eventually break down and without industry to make and replace parts it breaks too. That being said, a bikes best attribute is speed and range. Go around hordes or outrun them. Mtn bike is definitely the best choice because they have decent speed due to gearing...

Re: How much training before concealed carrying?

Hell, a simple "choose your own adventure" type role playing app on an iphone would give people that mindset. Shit, now that I think of it, I should find someone that can do it and come up with a CCW scenario app. A little more high tech could result in an xbox kinect type game or even like cabelas ...

Re: How much training before concealed carrying?

That bolded "high speed" part could describe anything from Krav Maga, to FitShot, to Kiddie Airsoft Battles, and then some. FitShot, that sounds intriguing, but the info on a GIS is kind of scattered, and there's some useless pages under that name. Got any more info? It sounds something like a comb...

Re: How much training before concealed carrying?

None. Yeah, I'll be that guy. AZ has no CCW laws except to say that if you legally can own (really buy since there is an age restriction) you can carry concealed without a license. There has been no spike in "bad" shootings. I think the logic is...you are an adult. If you choose to carry and take th...

Zip stripping firearms

Everyone that has been to a gun show knows that privately owned firearms brought in have a zip strip or similar put through the chamber or action for easy verification that it is not loaded. How do they do single action revolvers? I have never seen it, and this question came up at work lately. Anyon...

Hey, I was blonde until I was 7. Now I'm brown haired (like mom) and dad has (had...now it's shaved because he's grey...hair). I liked this episode. It was my wife's favorite (Dixon fan). She also thought the comedian on TD was hilarious. It's the after show folks! What do you expect. I especially l...

That bow is pretty sweet. But for $900? Ugh. Why must the cool stuff be so expensive?

I'm really lusting after a good spear. Why? Why not? I've been tempted by the cold steel spears. May have to get one even if it is just a wall hanger after a javelina kill.

Re: Moving from a urban locale to rural, experiences?

I asked my wife about this. She said the best thing to do is get a short term (6mos lease) and then network. Often you will be able to network into finding someone whose mother/father/gramma/grandpa had to move from the country and they have a really nice house but the family is not ready to sell no...

I want to thank Rosita for showing us all how a true survivor of a zombie apocalypse should dress. I have sold all my armor and will now greet the end times with nothing but daisy dukes and a crop top. *sigh* I had thought that this show was trying, at least by Hollywood standards, to be realistic....

Re: Term paper on CC training

You can go that route (the 2nd ammendment route which I totally agree with provided the people are responsible enough to fully understand the gravity or CCW...) , but unless you dedicate many, many hours interpreting "non-CCW experience" and training, your paper will be flawed. Case in point: ME. My...
