Re: COVID-19 Chat Thread

Regarding the case surge, amusingly no-one really knows what effect the protests and riots have had. Certainly, participants are probably more likely to be exposed...but at the same time they were causing a lot of other people to stay home. This is what has some people questioning how much "s...

Re: New Rig & Antenna

For 2M, I really like the N9TAX antenna on eBay. The guy advertises one for dual 2m/70cm. Some stuff I read by a PhD (Ed Fong) indicated to me the 70cm version of the N9TAX will resonate on a SWR meter but won't actually produce good results due to science which is above my head. So if I were you I'...

It's a 2 minute long video about how firearms work. Literally everything he says is factually incorrect, save his introduction "I'mma show you how stupid some people can be". You should try to find it elsewhere. Totally worth watching. I actually by pure happenstance caught at least a bit of it ear...

The Grand Master of the Not F*ucking Around Coalition explains how one of his militia members managed to have an "accidental discharge" that wounded three other NFAC members at a protest march last Saturday.....and I can't, I just can't. https://www.facebook.com/militaryarms/videos/576970156...

Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

So a question I've been asking my friends lately is: Has a civil war already started? I think to moments of recent past where the US government had declared another country as being engaged in civil war, usually as the publicly given reason to deploy troops into a country or bomb someplace we weren...

Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

Also, from a prepping perspective I can see why some would say "if you are not black and male..." or perhaps more accurately "if you are not involved in drugs your chances of being murdered go down drastically." (It's more of a "drugs" than a "race" thing). But I am not sure that really "erases" th...

Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

Nationally, murder is up. What I see, this seems to be a result of the rioting and de-funding efforts. I don't think you have data to back that up, or if you do I haven't seen it. In a couple cities, there are certainly extra murders due to rioting, but when you add those numbers to the grand total...

Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

While overall crime is down, I'm hearing reporting that homicides in particular are up. Is anyone else hearing the same? Could the protests alone account for the difference (for instance in my nearest metro area the 40% increase only amounts to 12 cases in the absolute sense) or is this indicative ...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

Remington had basically been an ammo company that occasionally produced competent firearms for as long as I can remember. I think dad even has a couple Remington guns, but they haven't had a stand-out design in...uh...decades? They made some well liked shotguns in the last 20 years. Mostly they mad...

Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

There were some more protestors shot in Aurora, CO. As reported, a protestor decided to throw a few rounds at a Jeep driving on the interstate that their group was trying to occupy, and they managed to wing a couple of their fellow protestors. Things in Austin, TX turned deadly. It looks like Sumdo...

Re: Backpack advice.

You have great advice from some experienced people. How much experience do you have camping? My thoughts: 1) Think about what you want to carry. Then go carry it for a few weekend camping trips around your area. THEN go camping/fishing. Also, get rid of anything you did not use during your camping t...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

"The numbers" are off, in one direction or another. If 0.7% of people with COVID die, and the US has over 150,000 COVID deaths, then 150,000/.007 = 21,400,000 people, in the US alone, have/had COVID. However, that is roughly 50% over the *global* estimate. So either the global and US estimates of C...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

An interesting article on COVID 19 lethality. https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-deadly-is-covid-19-researchers-are-getting-closer-to-an-answer-11595323801 Summary of best guess to date "an aggregate estimate of about 0.68%, with a range of 0.53% to 0.82%". Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

Politics. This whole conversation stinks of it. :words: So how does one avoid being caught up in the riots and property damage caused in the "exercising of rights"? For that matter, how does one avoid being targeted for aggressive action up to and including arrest? Sorry. There is a lot of politics...
