Re: .45 black powder vs 12 ga shotgun?

Shotgun with slugs. If you are really worried about 50 meter plus shots get real sights (ghost or iron) or an actual rifle like a 30-30 or an 06.

AK logistics are better but the SIG probably handles better. Personally I would go AK.

Re: "No Stock Needed" AR Pistol Alternative to Shoulder Stoc

Clown Shoes, The big advantage of an AR pistol is that using the buffer tube as a shoulder stock makes it a legally loop holed SBR. Arctic Patriot built one and reports that it functions just fine using that method. http://www.arcticpatriot.com/p/ar-pistol-project.html

Re: A friend, a horse, and...a gun?

Do some research, That is a lot of different states some of which will have a patchwork of local ordinances. Obviously training with firearms and horses is important but I do not want to be a Dan Downer. All I can really say is what I would use. I would carry a .357 Magnum revolver allowing me to lo...

Re: New Toy: USSG Baikal MP220 Side-by-side "Coach Gun"

I own one of these. Bought it when I was young and foolish (not saying you are, just that I was) because it was cool. They do have the advantage of breaking down into a very compact package. A neat piece for a collection but not so much as a practical defensive tool. They only have two shots. Anythi...

Re: Suv or pickup?

First it is worth noting that hauling and fuel economy are about vehicle weight and engine not SUV or pickup. A compact Toyota SUV with a 4 cylinder engine will get decently good gas mileage but an Excursion with a V10 will be a gas hog. Do you regularly haul lots of stuff like wood, dirt or gravel ...

I like the compact periscope for looking around corners idea. Attaching it to a rifle, not so much.

Re: Shorted 5 rounds of 7.62 54R from the store.

I have never gotten a short box. On the other hand when I buy loose packed bulk I do not count each individual round so maybe I have been shorted there. Wouldn't get stewed up about a small mistake (say under 3% or so) but if it was really off I would contact them about the error. "We don't accept r...

Re: When you see someone with 5.11 Gear or any brand Name Ge

I notice and note they are probably carrying but otherwise do not care. Then again I am around military installations so lots of guys wear that type of stuff and almost everybody has brand name bags. A generic TT/Blackhawk/5.11 bag is nothing to notice, though a Mystery Ranch is kind of cool. I wear...

For outdoor stuff I use a Petzl Tiki headlamp. Also one of those battery powered glowsticks gets a lot of play.

For around $30 you can get an Ontario RAT 1. For about $80 you could get a Benchmade Griptillian. Both are good knives.

I saw a review of one online and it looked nice until I saw the price. I don't think it does anything a generic 5.11/ etc all assault pack in the $150 range won't.

Am I missing something. Do these axes actually do something a normal ax I could get from a hardware store for a third (approximately, I haven't ax shopped in awhile) of the cost will not do? Or is it one of those things like knives where you get the cool custom $500 one because well, it is cool and...

15m-ish, smash the muzzle Bayonet in their face. Fixed that for you. At pistol ranges if in the open transition to a pistol. If behind cover or not reload the carbine. Not many military folks even carry bayonet's these days. Let alone have them fixed all the time. I can't see a realistic situation ...

Quality gear made in the USA. They made a few different bags that should work for you.
The TT bag I use for EDC is going on 8 years old and still 100% rock solid. They are great bags.

I always have a bivy (as well as whatever bag is appropriate for the season) and a poncho or two. Almost always just use the bivy and wrap the poncho over my ruck/kit/boots/etc. This works unless it is really nasty. Typically I will not have the cover over my head unless it looks like it may sprinkl...

$1500 should buy you an Workhorse-grade AR and a Workhorse-grade Polymer pistol, including spare mags, iron sights, and some "play" money. But figure out what you want the gun to do before you start drooling over the pretty ones. If it's just pretty you wnat: Gyrojet. Without knowing more info I lik...

I run a 'cold weather module' when seasonally appropriate. The module for Ohio would need to be a lot heavier than for Western WA.

I dunno about the whole cheap scope thing. To me scopes fall into the "buy once, cry once" category. You can get a very solid scope for $300-400ish. I would hold off a couple months and stash some cash.
