I made a web app for preppers - try it out!

Hi there! I’ve just spent the last year (with some help from my wife) working full-time on a website for preppers to help you manage your preps, know how many days you have stored and when your items are going to expire, keep track of your inventory across multiple locations, maintain a shopping lis...

Re: Ideas on best bug out firearms?

Thanks for the great discussion guys, lots of food for thought here. I can't say I've made any kind of final decision yet, I think this is going to involve some experimentation at the range, but right now I'm thinking of Glock 19 for self-defense as that's also the CCW I plan on having every day, an...

You mean you'd do the conversion to 22LR on the rifle in the field on an as need basis? How long does that take?

Ideas on best bug out firearms?

If you were putting together a bug out bag (say for 3 days) all the way up to an INCH bag (say, a year), what firearms would you go for? It seems like there are so many considerations and constraints it's hard to make a good decision: Functions: 1. Self-defense. 2. Hunting small game. 3. Hunting lar...

Re: Need help finding good quality water storage cans (5 gal

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'd like to avoid the plastic smell/taste in the water if possible. Obviously if I come upon plasticky water in an emergency and I'm about to die of thirst, I'll drink it. But it's not an emergency yet - that's the whole point of preparing early. I'd like to be able to ...

Re: Suggestions on Shooting Glasses or Eye Protection?

It depends on whether you have prescription glasses or not. If not, it's pretty simple. Uvex make these for $10: https://www.amazon.com/Uvex-S3200X-Genesis-Eyewear-Anti-Fog/dp/B001E696WM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1508192165&sr=8-5&keywords=uvex+safety+glasses . Anything with a Z87.1 rating is fine. Wil...

Need help finding good quality water storage cans (5 gal)

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I've spent the last few hours researching ways to store water in an apartment. I can't do anything more than about 5 gallons in size, so those big 55 gallon drums and so on are out of the question. Right now I just have bottled w...

Re: Upgraded the bear defense.

By the time you realize that the spray has not sufficed, it will be too late to bring a gun into it, other than maybe a pistol, held in the other hand, spray in the off hand, while the bear mauls you. I have a Policy with bears, As long as they stay 200m away from me, (grizzly) or 100m (small black...

However as batteries are adversely affected by cold, would it not be an idea to also keep those (and the things that rely on them) inside the 'Warm-zone' ?
Yup - although I would suggest you just switch to lithium batteries. They can handle cold better than any others.

Re: Walking Sleeping Bag

I never understood the point of insulation designed for use while sleeping *and* being awake and active. The whole point of having a separate sleeping bag is that when you're asleep, your body cools down a lot . There's a huge difference between your body's heat output when you're awake and doing st...

Re: How do you keep a Sawyer Mini or other filter from freez

Just keep it in a pocket on your person. Preferably a chest pocket as close to you (and far away from the outer layer) as possible. Go about your daily tasks with it, and sleep in your bag with it. I did this for a month in Canada when night temperatures went below freezing and it worked great :)

Re: Re-thinking (lightweight) shelter?

Thanks guys, I'll check 'em out - and I do now have a Sawyer. I used to use the Sawyer Squeeze, which was amazing, and then when Sawyer came out with the mini I grabbed that too. It's phenomenal - easily the best filter on the market today, and for that kind of price and weight I'm frankly speechles...

Re: Re-thinking (lightweight) shelter?

Yeah, that's really helpful - thanks. If I was actually just going there as a tourist then I could bring everything I needed, but I'm going there to work as an English teacher for a year, so I'm bringing all kinds of formal clothing. I will actually be using a 45 litre carry-on bag (with my 25L EDC/...

Re: Re-thinking (lightweight) shelter?

Some very good points here. I'm going to see what I can take out of my pack in order to put a small silnylon tarp in, but I have my doubts. A 25L pack is really quite small once you have a first aid/trauma kit, a water filtration and purification system, clothing, gloves, sandals, water, etc. And I ...

Re: Re-thinking (lightweight) shelter?

But if your talking about pack space/weight (which it seems like you partly are) I would think a sil-tarp would provide excellent cover, take up less space than all of those clothing layers, and be lighter. I would also think you would be much, much happier under a tarp in the rain than curled up u...

Re-thinking (lightweight) shelter?

I'm constructing an EDC/GHB/BOB (yes, all in one) out of a 25 litre pack, and I'm re-thinking a lot of things. I travel a lot so I find myself with a minimal number of things on me. Especially when I don't check luggage, I simply can't spare the space for a tarp, mattress, bivvy bag, and sleeping ba...

The hammock has been sold (together with a tarp that wasn't listed), and I'm now also considering selling my Hilleberg Akto - my first and favorite tent, but for which I have no space in my suitcase. It's been used about 3-4 times and is in absolutely excellent condition, and I also have the footpri...

Warbonnet Outdoors Blackbird SOLD to Raptor 6 This fella has been slept in about 5-6 nights.
