Re: CountyComm Maratac AAA Copper flashlight review.

If you buy this light to keep in a kit or car, STORE THE BATTERY SEPARATE. I had the grey, Aluminum model. Loved it. Terrific little light. Good output on a common, cheap battery. Kept it in a small tool-kit type bag in my car. Few months later, I needed it. Wouldn't turn on. Open it up, battery had...

Tell him to connect a solar cell to a desk lamp to power itself. :v:

Re: Decided to make my own knife...advice would be welcome

Barebones, knifemaking is pretty simple. Though, your biggest problem is going to be heat-treating. You're going to want to shape and bevel the blade BEFORE heat treatment. This'll make it easier to grind your bevels and will provide for a better heat-treat (being thinner at the edge will cause it t...

Re: Need info on Knife blade material from china!

Its not a knock off, its labeled as its own brand. Directly copying a design is still a knockoff, even if you put your own logo on it. It's just a knockoff, as opposed to a counterfeit. But at this point, it seems like you're already dead-set on buying one of these things. You're looking for justif...

Re: Re-soling boots

Go to your local Walmart's shoe department.

Buy this product:

Follow instructions on package.

Voila. Fixed boots.

Re: Modify or leave it?

If I wanted it to be a survival rifle, I'd chop the stock down to a birdshead grip and fabricate a wire-frame folding stock. I'd then pick up two 12ga conversions (not the short ones, the ones that are decent length that slide down the barrel). Probably .22lr and .308Win. Slide them down the barrels...

Re: Old timers- King of the apocalypse

I'd vote for the SMLE, but go for my Ishapore 2A1 chambered in 7.62NATO (.308Win). I love mine. Haven't gotten to shoot it much, especially good distances, but the bolt is SMOOTH and FAST. And the 12 round magazine gives it an edge over a lot of similar rifles. Other than that, can't go wrong with m...

Re: Thrift Shop finds

For a couple dollars, I came home with an old (but unused) Garmin emap. Had to buy a new cable, and I need to buy a new memory stick (the 8Mb stick it came with is too small for ANY map available). So I'll end up putting a total of $25-30 into it, plus it's initial cost of $5. Not the BEST deal in t...

Re: Cold Steel Recon 1 - Review

Good review. Clip-point, half-serrated Recon1 is my day-to-day EDC. The clip point, combined with PERFECT ergonomics, would make for some devastating stabs in self defense. Funny thing, I had the same complaint about the lack of jimping. First thing I did when I got it (in trade) was to take a chain...

Re: how to cure stag knife handles

I rub mine with Tung oil, just like wood, then a quick rubbing with lemon oil. Then let it sit over night.

Seems to work alright, so long as your antlers have been properly cleaned, drained of any remaining blood, etc (I suggest boiling them awhile is they're fresh).

*Bro-fist* Love my 2A1. Something to look out for: MAKE SURE YOUR SAFETY IS FULLY ENGAGED. On mine, at least, if the safety isn't fully engaged and the trigger is pulled, the gun will fire as soon as you release the safety lever. So long as the safety lever is fully engaged, there is no issue whatso...

Re: Why we really need a gun

My house has never caught fire. I still keep a fire-extinguisher. I've never been in a serious automobile accident. I still wear my seat-belt. I've never been robbed, beaten, or otherwise victimized. I still own firearms and carry whenever possible. Simply put, I NEED a gun. I need it because *I* am...

Re: Rifle cartridge holders?

Never mind, guys! A little imagination, and this is even better than keeping individual rounds on the outside. To make up for the lack of being able to grab a single round and load it quick in an emergency, she's got 4 rounds in the magazine with the bolt closed on an empty chamber. The stock cuff h...

Rifle cartridge holders?

I ordered a cheek rest for my Mosin Nagant Jungle Carbine (see thread over in longarms forum). First of all, there's a lesson to be learned here: When shopping on eBay, and purchasing a product that has drop-down menu options, DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CHOICES BEFORE PURCHASING. Apparently, even if you make...

Thanks for the kind words, guys! It was a lot of fun to do, and a pretty simple project for those who want an interesting, hard-hitting rifle on the cheap! Neat! Have you fired it yet? Nope. Mosin Jungle Carbine mod

Been hemming and hawing, but finally bit the bullet and decided to shorten my 91/30 Mosin Nagant. I have another, nicer one, that'll be kept in original condition. Anyway, I was inspired by a thread over on Arfcom where I found out that a reproduction muzzle for an Enfield Jungle Carbine .303 rifle ...
