Re: Help me save a life.

YOU ARE WRONG!! HIPPA applies on and off the clock! I am tapped out with this pathetic response. Obviously you have no experience with patient care, sometimes all you have is the convent between you and the patient when you can do nothing, holding the hand and talking with a dying patient--- makes ...

Intriguing. Any EMTs out there to weigh in on potential usefulness? Next to zero on the rig for me at least. It's a cool gadget but this is one of the things people who just graduated from emt school would rush out and buy. I can get done all I need to do with just my average shears. Honestly I mis...

EMT

I approached my instructor with an issue and thought I would bring it up here: I have no plans on entering the EMS field as a means of employment, I currently own my own business and am doing this class to refresh a few of the skills I picked up in the military. I carry a fairly comprehensive jump ...

Fast1 - Opinions and Reviews?

Why in gods name do you need an IO in your personal kit. There used in situations where access is needed immediately along with definitive care. If your using it in the right manner (maybe something austere?) when not acting as a medic or first responder they'll be dead soon anyway.

First test down :D It went Ok I scored an 88% (85% is passing). The fault was mine completely, One question I just did not know but the rest were all due to reading the question to quickly or not reading / missing a detail on the answers. It is just as important to know how to test  It has be...

Good stethoscope

I started out with a littman select but now have an ultrascope. The ultrascopes rival cardiology scopes for a quarter of the price.

Prepackaged first aid kits?

I ordered from USNERDOC, extremely versitile kits. Built on the premise that everything can be used, even the wrappers. Like the vacuum packing and it is a start-up company. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlSlMk_jfUA&feature=email" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; How about starting yo...

Re: Treating for anaphylactic shock

Like others have said, pop a few benadryl ASAP after the reaction is recognized if an EPI-pen is not available. And also as the other ems personal have said, its never truly "bad enough" to transport a critical patient or a patient going downhill.. although there may be exceptions. Even if you think...

Should I take an EMT or Medic class?

Are there organizations aside from NOLS that offer good Wilderness EMT courses? Preferably not too far from the Bay Area, in Cali. Another outfit to look at is wilderness medical associates. Once upon a time I took WEMT at ucla through them. Great skill set.....way more useful than just straight em...

Recommend me a stethoscope

I also like the littman master cardiology. I've had mine for about 3 years now, hospital setting. However, since she plans to work in family practice she'll probably want one with a dual head, because she'll need the smaller bell for young kids. Or you can get a decent one and then get a "disposabl...

Sharpening services

It's definitely a skill that I want to learn. From the instructions on the Emerson website, the sharpening seems pretty doable with a single rod sharpener. I just don't wanna botch a chisel grind. Id want to begin learning on a crappy knife just so I don't ruin my good one. For now, I'll trust a pro.

I know you can send it back to Emerson for a sharpening, but im not sure I'd get it razor sharp. I know theirs razors edge from nutnfancys videos. Anyone know any other repu...

What Scares you?

Just remembered... A couple of months ago a man bled to death on a bustling New York sidewalk after being stabbed several times. People just stepped over him. Not that it justifies any of this, if I'm not carrying any gloves, im not going near any bodily fluids. They should obviously call 9...
