Re: multitool

For hiking I like the Leatherman Wingman. It has one knife. Which is all I need. And the full size (not the smaller ones with don't do much) scissors for dealing with first aid issues. And just the right amount of tools. Think slimmed down but still crucial multitool tool. IT has some ounce weight ...

Re: multitool

I have had a a lot of Leathermans. The Wave is by far my favorite and you can't beat the warranty. The wave has been my go to for at least 6 years. One I always wanted to try was the Crunch. I have never seen one in person. Looks cool though. https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=OIP.M0de41ba76b3d64681e46...

Holy camper/van/Thing I would live in. Thats awesome! My latest has been a surplus Ranger rack. https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=OIP.M3eeb9035966763cfcd9fe592fa6c7587o0&w=300&h=225&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0&r=0 Its not exactly high speed low drag, but it works and it was cheap. Re: For Sale: UM21 Gregory SPEAR Pack **PRICE DROP**

Crypto's review was the reason I got one! They are wicked awseome bags. I used this one for a year so then drank the Kifaru Koolaid....I've hemhawed around about selling it since my families bug out plan has shifted more towards bug in and die fighting after we bought our place recently. Thanks guys...

For Sale: UM21 Gregory SPEAR Pack **PRICE DROP**

I have a Genuine, Made in the U.S of A. Gregory SPEAR main pack for sale. It is in excellent shape with no rips and tears. I believe it was used but not for long. It has all four of the MOLLE pockets that are oh so hard to find as well. It has a radio pouch inside that folds away and a zippered and ...

Re: Wood Safe for Smoking Meat?

There is a smoking bounty here! As far as your buried bucket of meat and fat goes I have read numerous articles, blogs, forum posts, and maybe a thing about it in an "old timer" book that ring pretty similar to this. Something along the lines of putting raw or cooked meat in a crock and "suspending"...

Re: hammock question

+15 to the Hennessey. They are a bit heavy, but by the time you pack the bug net, tarp, and ridge line, you haven't saved much for weight going with another make. The A-symetrical design is comfortable too, there is no ground pad I've found yet that compares to a hammock. Heed the advice about the u...

Re: Cleaning sticker goo off GSI Dualist

Cooking spray you say? Cannot say I would have ever thought but I will have to try it. I have always had moderate success with acetone or goof off. However, you have to be careful with those and many other solvents on plastics....they will "burn" them.

Great kit. There isn't much you didnt cover. I'm trying to finalize my own day/scout/ghb at the moment and I must say, I never thought of gloves, a few quart or gallon ziplocks, or a big trash bag  I just may have to borrow those ideas. Just curious, what is your weight looking looking like.

Re: Custom pack maker?

You could actually just buy the cargo panel from kifaru, I think its around $140, and snap it too a molle frame from what I saw on their forum. It would do well with chunky weird loads as well as compartmentalized, very segregated loads. I'm in the midst of drafting a "what do you think I should get...

Kifaru has a freight hauler/cargo panel that is pretty modular. You can add or subtract pods or whatnot. I'm pretty interested in it myself.

Re: Add an integrated bug net to the MSS Bivy?

I have indeed done this.....but my design was poor and I ended up cutting it off one night. I hate things touching my face when I'm sleeping. I guess the netting wouldn't do much good of its on your skin anyway as the skeeters can go right through the mesh. Snugpak makes a jungle bag that has a zip ...

Re: Danner advice

I guess I should explain why I asked, I work in the commercial maintenance industry. Steel toes aren't a necessity, but there have been a few times its been nice to rest big things on my toes. The weight factor has never really bothered me with steelies, so thats not really an issue. I'm just worrie...
