Re: Shoulder Strap for Canteen Pouch ?

I carry my canteen, cup, and stove in a molle 2 style pouch with a 10 foot piece of 3/4 inch soft rope with the end tied together with prussik knots. This makes the length of carry adjustable and also allows for carrying an extra bit of rope. Very handy for carrying with a minimal 5 C kit.

Re: Quesiton for service members who served in A-stan and Ir

I know from looking back at my time in I would have just about killed for some microbites for eating MRE's. Too many times trying to eat things like country kaptain chicken with a stupid plastic spoon makes ya want to kill somebody with that stupid plastic spoon. Maybe that's just me though. http://...

Re: Space Blankets

This is the one I use. It's reusable and works well for heat retention and makes a good ninja shelter. http://canteenshop.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://vagrant.fatcow.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/webassets/allweatherblankets.jpg&target...

Re: Firelighting - Mini inferno

It looks like my waxy balls! (Made out of pads though.) It's key in my opinion to be able to be totally waterproof and then be able to light it with nothing but a firesteel. (which is also waterproof) i have some of your waxy balls in my main fire kit. your balls are awesome! they are cheap and eas...

Re: Nalgene or military canteen for water?

I wonder if this will fit into the old GI canteen cups and covers? If so, I need one bad! Acording to Nalgene it should. Review for the Oasis are few and far between. I could do a review if there is any interest. If I recall my Oasis does fit all USGI covers and cups but would need to test this out...

Re: Paracord..... How do you pack yours ?

I do the doughnut too for like 50 foot lengths and then do the deployment lanyard I just learned from the ITS link above for like 10 to 25 foot lengths and I also re wrapped the 550 cord on my survival knife into a deployment lanyard also. Looks much better and neater now.

I really like this setup and I could almost dupe it if I had an extra buttpack and a kidney pad for my frame  I know I know don't ask why I don't have a kidney pad

Re: I need to change my bag and kit

Don't think of a bag as a 4 season closet. Instead put together seasonal modules. These are bags that go in your BOB, you change them out as the seasons change. Your basic survival gear will always stay the same except perhaps if you live in a temperate zone and plan a trip to the desert then addin...

Wow, can't believe I missed the lack of a shelter component. You could also probably ranger band a contractor trash bag to the outside to add another shelter component besides the heat sheet.

Re: Why is it so hard to find a good B.O.B.?

It's been said before and I'll say it again. Any large pack is going to stand out and mark you as one better prepared than the reset and possibly make you a target for detainment and questioning by the police/military and someone the bad guys want to take out so they can rob you. Plain and simple as...

Looks good to me. I can't think of anything to add offhand atm but I do applaud that you went outside the box as far as a container bigger than an Altoids tin. Good job.

Safe to drink and boil in?

Okay guys I don't really use cans very much so I don't know about this one. I really like the size of it and I think it will work pretty well with my soda can stove.

Okay, does it have to be sand or could you just use regular dirt? Sand can be hard to find where I live.

Re: A conundrum....what to put in the pouch?

Okay I might try the straw idea since it is a good way to put PJ cotton balls just about anywhere. I do like the tinder qwiks because they aren't messy but I've been wanting to try the straw idea too.

Re: A conundrum....what to put in the pouch?

I did end up putting all my small stuff in an Altoids tin. I want to get a bunch more tinder qwiks to put in some of my other kits plus this one and I guess I should look at some of the BOAT threads to get more ideas. Thanks fellas. I'm always open to more ideas and opinions/discussions.

Re: A conundrum....what to put in the pouch?

The weight is really not an issue. I don't have much room for cotton balls although I might be able to cram some in there somewhere just not sure what to put them in that will fit in this package. I also took off the whistle/compass combo since I was a little worried about it getting caught on somet...

Re: A conundrum....what to put in the pouch?

I ALWAYS have a jumbo size bandanna in my back pocket so that doesn't go in the pouch. I put a folded up aqua pouch in there also and an Altoids tin with button compass, scout model ferro rod, folding razor blade knife, whistle, tweezers, 6 Aquamira tabs, mini Bic, a couple small pieces of fatwood, ...

Re: A conundrum....what to put in the pouch?

Well all I'm really trying to do with this is have a few small things on my knife sheath to help me through a night or maybe two in case something bad happened and I ended up with just what I have on my body which my knife would always be on my belt and so I would have this kit on me at all times. Re: A conundrum....what to put in the pouch?

Thanks guys. I hadn't thought of a small led light for some reason. I think for this application and in this instance I will probably reconsider on the Altoids tin since I already have good shelter components and a good fixed blade. I guess the cheap thin space blankets from Walmart are the kind you...
