Re: M1917 Bayonet find

It's rusty and has some dried grease on it... Have you checked to make sure it isn't dried blood? :P I've been eyeballing out for an M1917 bayo lately, (for reasons) and from what I can tell... price wise, Raptor is about right on repro's. No ideas on what a period one goes for, so I can't ...

Re: penny stove troubleshooting

With regards to standard regular pop cans, I dunno what is best to use these days. Several years back though, I made a few really good working ones from the older Heineken cans - the funny keg shaped ones. At some point, they started embossing numbers on the bottom of the can, and those didn't work ...

Re: RIT Dye - ACU/DCU to Ranger Grean - CHEAP!

i remember some of the stuff you did. i was first inspired by aa1pr. there were a few threads about two years ago floating around at the same time on here with guys dyeing gear. im glad to see the topic come back up. Yep, aa1pr's thread was where it all started - methinks. I never did get around to...

Re: RIT Dye - ACU/DCU to Ranger Grean - CHEAP!

Count me in also, as I've also used RIT dye on a massive pile of DCU. It worked out fine. Not sure if I have any pics saved of it, but... a few years back I was inspired by posts from aa1pr and darkkside here. if you are a good sleuther, you'll find those. The only thing I have to say regarding the ...

Re: A month supply of "light"

I'll probably get some flak here, because of this. Ahh well - For the Home - A couple of good old school oil lamps, and some candles would work in a pinch. How many, and how much kerosene would be needed for 30 days is unknown to me. I know a lot of people don't trust either, due to the possible fir...

Re: USMC ILBE quick release buckle source?

According to the info that I have found, those buckles are manufactured by Illinois Tool Works or simply known as ITW / Nexus. The specific part number for that QRB: 1584 (for the both parts I believe) 1584-01 Body 1584-02 Latch Found here. I'm not sure where to buy those direct though, as I haven't...

Re: Sewing Kit

While it's not compact as far as kit goes, I'd most definitely recommend having one of these babies in your gear: http://www.speedystitcher.com/120.jpg Start with some waxed thread on the spool so that you can drop in there and you are GTG for most everything. Very nice for field repairs on pack... ...

Re: Mounting an ALICE to a 1606 frame and some other ALICE m

Okay, this is slightly off topic, but thanks to Kutter's post, I found something else curious on eBay. This is marked as a prototype USMC ILBE pack, but it looks like a coyote brown large ALICE pack with all fastex buckles with no other differences. Can anybody enlighten me on this? Well, I'd agree...

Re: Mounting an ALICE to a 1606 frame and some other ALICE m

Hrrmmm... Some thoughts: Firstly - I believe that $400 one is listed as the complete system, the "full deal" so to speak. Which would mean that it has the main pack, suspension and frame, the assault pack, hydration and sustainment pouches and other assorted stuff to go along with it. If so - that i...

Re: I need a surplus hunting coat

The good old M65 jacket is the first choice I'd recommend. If ya do some searching around in your local thrift stores, they can be found pretty damned cheap. Around here, I usually see them sitting on the racks for no more than about 7-8 bucks in the summer. But, they usually start to dry up rather ...

Not another damned patch..... I was guilty of designing the last one.
I love the idea, and I would expand on it but I've had a few too many beers to fire up the old artist in me.

Perhaps I shall sit this one out.

Re: Molle 2 DCU rucksack

do you think the gen IV frame would work with the MOLLE 2 ruck??? if so i might try that route as well as the ACU ruck and see which one holds up the best. I can confirm that the 4th generation frame will work for both MOLLE rucks - as the frame slots are the same. I know, as I possess both with ge...

Re: Trading my ALICE for Kelty

I have the standard frame with my Alice, Im 6' 220lbs with about 18-19" torso. I have upgraded to the Molle shoulder harness and belt. I thought the 1606 was the same overall length as the standard frame which is why I avoided buying it. So, essentially you are running a Hellcat like medium ALICE? ...

Re: Trading my ALICE for Kelty

cbr900 - If I may ask, what frame do have have with the medium ALICE? Is it the original aluminum OG tube frame? Do you plan on having a belt with gear? (first line) How tall are you, and have you had your torso measured... or measured it yourself? The reason I ask, is because all of those factors, ...
