Re: WCF Full sized striker knives.

Nice little collection. Another handy option to have along for fire starting. We just had a Blacksmithing class a couple weeks ago where we built patch knives that doubled as strikers.

Re: Cold camp with improvised shelter

Looks like a fun trip. Did you leave the ends of your drop cloth shelter open? I use the same bag you do, they're hard to beat in cold weather. I gave up a MSS to go back to the old mummy bag. Although I do now keep it in a gortex bivy. Good looking chow and I too noticed the Opinel right away. Alwa...

Re: The Blackthorn Bottle - New Product

Any chance of a titanium version? Now that's something we never considered. You think there would be a market for those? The minumum order is a few thousand so it's not really a gamble you want to take unless you're pretty sure people would want them. Don't hold your breath waiting just yet, but ye...

Re: The Blackthorn Bottle - New Product

WW, I'd like to hear your thoughts on our bottle. Our bottle is sold as a 32oz and that is to the shoulder where the capacity scale typically would be. If you fill ours to the top it too will hold 38oz. Our bottle weighs 7oz compared to plastic Nalgene 6.3, Standard 12.9 and Backpacker 12.3. Skuldug...

Re: Blackthorn Steel Bottle Review

moab, I appreciate the suggestions and next batch will likely have a couple improvements. Particularly the retaining strap. The original version was smaller and while you could remove it easily, it didn't fall off as easily. We didn't get exactly what we wanted in that regard but we'll adapt. I've a...

jnathan, I too think it's is probably an oil filled compass although I have never seen one break and had the opportunity to find out for sure.

Skuldugary, First one shouldn't of had a dent. Glad the second one made it in good shape. Enjoy and thanks again.

Re: The Blackthorn Bottle - New Product

No clue what all that was about the bottles, a lot of propaganda i suppose. You are right does look like the design was bought by Nalgene and is available for 26.99 http://store.nalgene.com/product-p/1778-1002.htm Best bottle I ever owned, not sure how it could be improved on. Does not leak and tou...

Re: Wood Safe for Smoking Meat?

Pemmican can last for years in a tin or even a waxed paper envelope. The fat protects it. When preserving any meat with tallow warm the tallow only to the point that it flows around the meat. If it is to hot it can partially cook your meat and that meat will spoil and could be harmful to you. I woul...

Nice little trip there. Kinda fun not having to drag a bunch of stuff along huh? Wrong time of year to be trying to forage though for sure. We tell people if you get stranded this time of year you better know some traps cause the harvest is over. We don't even have any berries left around here. Look...

Re: Pitcher Pump

Got ya, I can see how that setup would work for you then. Pretty slick, I have never seen it done just like that and I have seen and installed more than a few pump systems of all varieties. Of course around here the average well depth is about 300 feet so we very rarely see manual pumps with the cyl...

Re: Blackthorn Steel Bottle Review

Glad the bottle made out to ya. Well first things first, it obviously shouldn’t have a dent and while I’d like to think we wouldn’t have missed that on its way out I can’t be sure. I can however be sure that it will be replaced for you. I also think new should look new. So thanks for taking the time...

Re: Pitcher Pump

It’s unique for sure, I think I’m getting my head wrapped around it. So the cylinder must be in the pump body, and you’ve got the check below so it won’t lose prime… How far does the pipe go down the well? I always thought that that style of pump was designed for cisterns and could only lift water 1...

Re: The Blackthorn Bottle - New Product

Zenshu , I’m not sure if our slow match refills will fit any other snuffers as these are the only ones I’ve ever seen in real life. In fact I didn’t know anyone else in the USA even sold them. We make ours and they have been very popular with the primitive/rendezvous crowd. GearSpec , Good question...

Re: Pitcher Pump

With a jet pump your water table might be high enough to use a pitcher pump as intended but there's so much incorrect in that picture I can't even imagine how that would work. You should really post up more pics and some kind of explanation on that setup. A few things that pop into my mind are, why ...

There may be others but the Pill Lid will fit 63mm threads so it should fit the Blackthorn Bottle too. Neat idea, particularly for folks who have to take medication regularly.

Looks really good. Nice work on the details! Just checked your website. You left out the compass lid in your post. Very clever idea. Is the collar that holds the lid to the bottle heat resistant or should it be removed if you're going to heat the bottle on a fire? Thanks. The compass lid isn't part...

Re: The Blackthorn Bottle - New Product

Hey thanks guys. We tried to make the bottle we wanted for our own use and incorporate features we couldn't find elsewhere. We had to buy a ton of these things to have them made our way though, lol. We're hoping other people will like them as well.
