Re: What did you today for your BOV/how did you prepare your

I'm going to go look for a BOV today, or at least, the vehicle that's going to get me from Vancouver to Haida Gwaii, with all my stuff. My budget is under 5K. It's gonna be fun though, got a test drive booked for this afternoon for this one: https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/pml/ctd/d/2003-chevrolet-a...

Re: Restoring and maintaining leather

Mink Oil is also good, I like it for replenishing old leather. Kiwi for boots, though I think the more modern Parade Gloss blend is inferior to the Kiwi Original. Never used Linseed Oil, Raw or Boiled, but given that it polymerises over time, if you can afford to let it set long enough, I think it'd...

Re: Choosing a Camouflage pattern

It depends what you are hiding from too. Animal vision is different to human vision.

Case in point would be something like Sticks n Limbs* or Predator, works a lot better for animal vision than it does for human vision.

*Conflict of interest, I am an honorary pro-staffer for Sticks n limbs

Re: Mt Agung threatens to erupt

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-42163768 Flights have resumed from the international airport in Bali after three days of disruption caused by a volcanic ash cloud, officials say. Layers of ash settled on houses and fields on the Indonesian island after an eruption of Mount Agung. Up to 100,000...

Re: Chelyabinsk radiation

The BBC covered it, a little. Last I recall it was the Russians admitting that they had detected the cloud... Finally. I always like measuring radiation in Banana peels (I work along side a team with radio labelled chemicals) and so it's easy to explain that this much radioactive waste has the same ...

That's a brilliant first hand toxicological report. Thanks for the insight into a spice trip.

And as a toxicologist, I second the motion.

I'm unaware if Iran or Iraq has appealed for international aid, but I believe the UN is responding.

I was troubled by toothache some time ago... I found that Adult Bonjela did no good... because it contained no Lidocaine.

Junior Bonjela.... that did the trick, 0.5% w/w Lidocaine.

Re: Long Term Storage Spices

Great necro! Was actually just thinking about spices this morning. Basil is pretty easy to keep alive put in a jar with water and put in a sunny window sill. It may only last a few months but I'll grow. Honestly don't know how I managed to miss that this was a necro. Normally I only read what pops ...

Re: Stranger Things 1 and 2

I am currently watching this with my GF. She is very frustrated I don't want to binge it all in one night. The amount of times people don't retreat and call for back up does annoy me. Don't go into the Upside down! Alone, unsupported and hardly armed.... this may of course have something to do with ...

Interesting. It is indeed the drag at the rear that stabilises the flight pattern AFAIK, but I've not seen it done with moleskin. I'm impressed with your dedication, I've never considered the weight of fletching when I tune my arrows. Do you find it makes much difference at 5 yards? Is this for a co...

Colour of solution might also be affected by the composition of the water used to dissolve them. I would suggest making a saturated solution and then diluting from the known volume of sat. solution, but in the field, this too is very variable and imprecise. But I know nothing of field use for Potass...

Speaking as a STAB's STAB (Stupid Territorial Army Bastard) with 0 deployments to his name... we were never issued the official knife in my unit, no Bayonet training (A training weekend I didn't go on apparently went like this: ). So this is starting out in Madagascar, playing on easy mode. I attended a CBRNE conference this year, w...

Re: Is this what you call being prepared?

Others have already hit the key points. There is one thing I think needs to be pointed out. IMO it is a fallacy to assume that should the USA go down the "Mad Max" route that Americans will simply be able to pick up their toys and move to a nice sandy beach while order is restored. If that happens ...

I've made a lot of Ceder shingles. Practice makes you so much better, in the course of a week I was able to get faster, better and less wasteful.

I'll give these video's a watch when i get the chance, nice find.

(Split shingles are so much nicer than sawn, and AFAIK, last much longer).

1) Many essential oils tout themselves to be antibacterial, anti-viral, antifungul, anti-microbial, ect. On the surface this looks like a great thing but now a lot of modern medicine is saying that various beneficial micro organisms live in our gut, blood, ect. Are these essential oils bad for your...
